1) ======= Flight Lines =======
[Observations on business and life]

Man must go back to nature for information. --Thomas Paine

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's
peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the
storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you
like the leaves of Autumn. John Muir (1838 - 1914)

Take time to get out and learn from the natural world in
which we "live". It is refreshing and life-sustaining and
will add a new perspective to your business and your life.

2) ======= Wing Tips =======
[A variety of business helps and tips]

Protect Files in Microsoft Office 2003

Microsoft Office 2003 programs, such as Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint can be password protected to safeguard against
unwanted access to your critical information.

The two levels of protection are "read-only" and "password
protected".

The read-only level allows anyone to read a file, but only
those with the password can edit the document. A password-
protected file can only be opened by someone with the
password.

To use read-only protection:
1. Open the file.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then Security.
3. In the Password to modify box, type a password, and then
click OK.
4. In the Reenter password to modify box, type the password
again, and then click OK.

To password protect a file:
1. Open the file.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Security.
3. In the Password to open box, type a password, and then
click OK.
4. In the Reenter password to open box, type the password
again, and then click OK.

"Your Business Is Your Domain"
By Ralph Moore (c)2004

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other
name would smell as sweet..."

When William Shakespeare wrote those lines, he certainly
wasn't referring to your business or it's identity on the
Internet today.

When choosing a domain name to represent your business, it
is important to give it some thought before you start into
the process of building a web site and establishing your
"brand" on the Internet.

The difference between success and failure on the Internet
may rest, at least in part, with you choice of a memorable
domain name.

It takes a lot of investment, both financially and in terms
of time spent, to build a web presence for your business,
and once established, it may be very difficult (maybe even
impossible) to change all of your links on the net.

The type of web presence that you need will determine the
domain extension that you will use. Here are the domain
types that are most widely used today:

1) .com - The number one choice for business web sites
Example: http://www.yahoo.com/

2) .biz - This is the next best choice for your business
when .com is already taken. Example: http://www.whois.biz/

3) .net - Even though this was originally designed to be
used by network service providers, this extension is often
used by businesses when both the .com and .biz names are
already in use. Example: http://www.php.net/

4) .info - Use this domain when your web site is primarily
intended to offer information to visitors. This is often
used as a second domain for businesses when it is desirable
to separate a large amount of information from services and
products. Example: http://www.microbes.info/

5) .org - This domain classification is intended for use by
non-profit organizations and should only be used for that
purpose. Example: http://www.w3.org/

6) .name - If you want to offer information about yourself
you can use the .name domain extension as I have done with
http://www.ralph.moore.name/ to allow people to know more
about my technical background.

7) .edu - As the .edu implies, this domain name extension is
to be used for educational sites. Example: http://web.mit.edu/

8) .gov - Government sites only will qualify for using this
one. Example: http://www.census.gov/

9) .mil - Don't even think about asking for a .mil extension
for your business. http://www.defenselink.mil/

10) .us - These are country designations used to separate a
large corporate entity by country. Chile uses .cl, while .cn
stands for China. Example: http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/

From the many different extensions in use today, it is most
likely that you will be using a .com, .biz or .net domain
extension for your business web site.

In the next article in this series, I will discuss a simple,
logical and systematic way for you to choose the best domain
name to represent your business online.

4) ======= Alter Eagle =======
[Sites and services that we recommend]

Johnny Appleseed Org Web Site

If you love apples like I do, you might want to stop by this
site devoted to that well know American folk hero known as
"Johnny Appleseed".

Be sure to click the Home Page link to explore the entire
site.

Take a look: http://www.appleseed.org/johnny.html

5) ======= Light Flight =======
[The Lighter Side Of Life - Jokes & Humor]

A blonde and a lawyer are sitting next to each other on a
plane. The lawyer says "Let's play a game." If I ask you
a question that you can't answer, you pay me five dollars,
and if you ask me a question that I can't answer, I'll pay
you 50 dollars. The blond agrees.

The lawyer's first question is: "What's the distance from
the Earth to the nearest star?"

Silently the blonde gives the lawyer five dollars. Then the
blonde asks him, "What goes up a hill with four legs and
down a hill with three?"

The lawyer strains his brain, but finally gives up and pays
the blonde 50 dollars. Then the lawyer asks, What's the
answer"?

Without a word, the blonde gives the lawyer five dollars.

6) ======= Eagle's Talon =======
[Tools to help you "get a grip" on things]

Bookmark Wizard From Moon Software

Bookmark Wizard is a little program with a simple interface
that generates an HTML page with all selected links from
your Internet Favorites folder. The links in the resulting
page are grouped and sorted in ascending order like they are
in your Favorites folder. You can specify colors for links
and backgrounds, title, caption, etc., for your page.

Also, you can exclude certain folders from being listed.

Advanced users are able to edit the entire page template to
customize it further. The resulting web page can be used as
a links page. You can send it to a friend or use it just as
a startup page for your web browser etc.

Note: This program is not a HTML to Favorites converter.

Answer to Last Issue's Puzzler...

[A cube, made of a white material, has the exterior painted
black. If the cube is cut into 125 smaller cubes, exactly
the same size, how many of the small cubes will have 2 of
their sides painted black?]

44. You need to include the corners as they have also have
(at least) two of their sides painted black.
