"A Pause That Refreshes"
By Ralph Moore (c)2004

Do you ever get so wrapped up in your work that you forget
to take a break? You probably do. I know I do.

Did you ever think that working too much could actually
hurt your business?

Well, I've got some news for you. There is a lot of truth
to the old saying "Don't work too hard"! When you become
so involved in your job that you "work" through lunch
or regularly extend your work day, chances are you are
actually hurting rather than helping your business.

We humans NEED a break now and then, to recharge and refresh
or we suffer little "burnouts" and end up "treading water"
instead of "winning the gold".

When you work at a desk, as I do, it's more important than
ever to stand up and stretch every now and then, or even go
for a short walk to get your blood flowing, keep all of
your joints working properly and to make sure your body
stays in good working order.

And at least once a year, you really need to "get away from
it all" by taking an extended vacation. After all, if all
you ever do is work, just what are you working for?

Now I enjoy what I do more than ever, but I also realize
that there is more to life than just working all of the
time.

I just returned from a much-needed two week vacation with
my family. I didn't realize just how badly I needed a break
until a few days into the first week.

We left Indianapolis on a Thursday, and spent two days in
my mini-van, driving to Western Maine to visit with my
wife's family.

Now I normally spend a LOT of hours on a computer and online
when I am working, and of course I took along my laptop so
I could try to keep up with my daily email.

It didn't take long before I began to realize that it would
be difficult at best, and really not worth the effort (not
to mention taking time away from my family) to spend any
of my precious vacation time on a computer.

Once I finally stuck the laptop "in the closet", I began
to relax, unwind and enjoy my time away from my work life.

Being in a new place is energizing in itself. New sights,
sounds and smells combine to stimulate your senses.

Sure, we have pine trees in Indiana, but Maine really has
PINE TREES! In many areas, the scent of pine truly fills
the air.

And there are mountains. When I look out any of my windows
here, I see more houses. In Maine, you don't have to look
very far to see mountains, forests, streams, rivers and
of course the ocean.

And whenever you're near the ocean, you are likely to find
fresh seafood. Lobster, scallops, clams, fish of all kinds
and more are plentiful and inexpensive all along the coast.

And there is something else that you can see in a remote
area that you may never see here in Central Indiana.

The stars. With a population of just over 1.2 million
people for the entire state of Maine, there aren't nearly
as many big cities with millions of lights that hide your
view of the night sky.

If you take the time to travel to one of the Western states
or any place where you can get away from all of the lights,
the night-time sky is simply riddled with stars, planets,
the moon and even "shooting stars".

I'll bet some people have gone a lifetime without ever
really seeing much of nature or experiencing it's beauty
firsthand.

Life's too short for that.

If you spend all of your time working, without taking time
to "smell the roses", you may just "grow old before your
time".

Take a break. Stand, stretch or even go for a walk.

Better yet, take a vacation and you'll soon see what you
have been missing.

Remember it's a pause that refreshes.

[The Lighter Side Of Life - Jokes & Humor]

Mrs. Jones stops at the butcher shop to buy a chicken for
her Sunday meal. The butcher has only one small chicken
left and he puts it on the scale.

"Three pounds," he says.

"That's too small. Don't you have something bigger?" Mrs.
Jones asks.

The butcher takes the lonely chicken behind the counter,
pretends to rummage around, and then puts the same chicken
back on the scale, while lightly pressing with his thumb.

"Three and a half pounds," he says.

"That's better," says Mrs. Jones. "I'll take them both."

[Real-life accounts of hardware, software and more]

"Windows XP Professional Requirements"
By Ralph Moore (c)2004

Here is what you need to run Windows XP Professional:

PC with 233 megahertz (minimum) processor clock speed
It can be either a single or dual processor system, of
Intel Pentium / Celeron family, or an AMD K6 / Athlon /
Duron family.

*I would recommend running at least a 500Mhz processor.

64Mb ram memory minimum. *I recommend at least 128Mb as
XP just runs so much better with the extra memory.

1.5 Gb (that's gigabytes) hard drive space. *You really
need to plan on a lot more space for the larger programs
and suites (like MS Office) as they are quite large by
themselves and hard drives are inexpensive these days.

Super VGA (800x600 or higher) resolution video adapter
and monitor. *Again, more is better, and remember, if
you are going to be doing any graphics editing, you will
want to have a separate graphics card instead of a pc
with "integrated" or shared graphics on the main board.

CD-ROM or DVD drive.

Keyboard and MS compatible mouse or other pointing device.

Additional Items or Services Required to Use Certain
Windows XP Features

For Internet access:

Internet use may require an ISP account, a Microsoft .NET
Passport account, local or long-distance telephone charges
and other provider charges, depending upon your needs.

14.4 Kbps or higher modem. *If you are only going to be
using fax services with your XP system, then that might
work. But you really have to have at least a 56 Kbps modem
for an Internet connection. Most Internet providers will
no longer allow connection speeds below 33 Kbps.

For networking:

Network adapter appropriate for the type of local-area,
wide-area, wireless, or home network you wish to connect
to. Access to third-party networks may require additional
charges.

For instant messaging, voice, video conferencing, gaming,
and other application sharing, both parties need:

Client-server software to support the application as well
as appropriate hardware and connections. You may also need
a Microsoft .NET Passport account and Internet access or
Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server instant messaging account
and network access (some configurations may require
download of additional components).

For voice and video conferencing, both parties also need:

33.6 Kbps or higher-speed modem, or a network connection,
Microphone and sound card with speakers or headset.

For video conferencing, both parties also need:

Video conferencing camera, Windows XP.

For application sharing, both parties also need:

33.6 Kbps or higher-speed modem, or a network connection,
Windows XP.

For remote assistance:

Both parties must be running Windows XP and be connected by
a network.

For remote desktop:

A Windows 95 or later–based computer, and the two machines
must be connected by a network.

For sound:

Sound card and speakers or headphones.

For DVD video playback:

DVD drive and DVD decoder card or DVD decoder software,
8 MB of video RAM. *Again, more is better here.

For Windows Movie Maker:

Video capture feature requires appropriate digital or
analog video capture device and a 400 MHz or higher cpu
for digital video camera capture.

You CAN get Windows XP to run on older hardware, and it may
do all that you need for the time being, but if you are
using XP in your business and are planning for the future,
I highly recommend buying new hardware that will maximize
the many additional features built into Windows XP Pro.

Finally, if you are running any kind of business, be sure
to pay the few extra dollars for the professional version
of the Windows XP operating system as the added features
and security considerations are a must.

8) ======= Eye of the Eagle =======
[Ideas to inspire better communication]

A grandfather clock chimes a number of times to indicate
the hour, as well as chiming once every quarter hour.

If you are blindfolded and hear the clock chime only once,
what would be the longest period of time you would have to
wait in order to be sure of the correct time?
