The purpose firm is equal to the deed.
--Edward Young
The secret of success is constancy to purpose.
--Benjamin Disraeli
Whatever your purpose, stick with it! The longest journey
becomes a bit shorter with each step. Remember, it took
Thomas Edison over 10,000 steps before he finally invented
the light bulb.

Advanced Security Options - Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Home Edition limits your control of file and
folder security, by offering "Simple File Sharing."
Here is a work-around, that adds the security tab to the
"Properties Dialog" box of files and folders in Windows
XP Home Edition, by starting in "Safe Mode".
Shut down and restart your computer. When the message at
the bottom of the screen says to, hit the "F8" key.
In the "Windows Advanced Options Menu", Select "Safe Mode"
or "Safe Mode with Networking", using the arrow keys.
Press the "Enter" key and log in. After logging in, click
"Yes" to the "Safe Mode" message.
Right click "Start" and click "Explore". Right click on any
file or folder and click "Properties".
Click the "Security" tab. Set NTFS permissions for the
files and folders you wish to manage.

"How To Grow Your Business in Changing Times"
By Ralph Moore
Is your business still growing, or are you struggling just
to make ends meet? Whatever your answer, at one time or the
other, you most likely have struggled to keep your business
going and growing.
One thing's for sure. The times that we are living in today
are certainly changing, and faster than ever these days. If
you hesitate, you're likely to be left in a "cloud of dust"
as your competition passes you by.
Continue to do the same things, and you will get the same
results. In fact, the results you get will probably "pale
in comparison" to the rewards of the past.
Here is one reason why.
Today, the average life expectancy in the U.S. is over 75
years of age, and rising. Over forty-five million people
in the U.S. alone are 60 years of age or older, and are
the fastest growing segment of the population.
This tremendous growth is largely due to the "Baby Boomer"
generation, people born between 1946 and 1964, who are now
77 million strong.
"Boomers", who are now between 36 and 54 years old, will
begin turning 60 in 2005.
Population estimates predict that by the year 2050, there
will be about 97 million people over 60 years of age, and
that they will represent about 28% of the total population.
With such a growing segment of the population, it makes
perfect sense to modify your business to satisfy the wants
and the needs of the "boomer" generation.
Do you own a dry-cleaning or other service-related business?
If so, are you offering your customers coupons and discounts
by email, or from your web site?
How about an auto repair center? Could your web site give
customers a service cost, and a time estimate, for each type
of repair?
Do you allow people to "book" their own appointments on your
company web site and from the comfort of their homes?
And whatever the business, do you offer to pick up and
deliver your products to your customers homes or business?
One of the characteristics of our times, is that the rules
are constantly changing. Things that worked last week, may
well be outdated today.
In order to survive the change and grow our businesses, we
must change the way that we do things, and the way we react
to the dynamic world around us.
Many people are working two jobs, and because they have less
"personal time", they are willing to pay more for goods and
services that were once considered a luxury.
Choose to change with the times, and you will reap many of
the rewards of your extra efforts. Fail to keep up with the
times, and you just might find that the "shop around the
corner" has passed you by.
By paying attention to the dynamic times in which we live and
to your customers' needs, chances are you can find ways to
grow your business and to benefit from our changing times.

What WAS that word, anyway? (Great for writers!)
Have you ever found yourself searching for that one word
or concept that is "right on the tip of your tongue", but
you just can't remember, even if your "life depends on it"?
Here is an excellent web site that will help you "jar your
memory". Type in a word or two, and get a list of words and
concepts related to your search.

"Moving Your Web Site to a New Hosting Provider"
By Ralph Moore
If you are a business owner or professional, chances are
you already have a web site and email addresses that are
an important part of your business.
At some point, it may be necessary to move your web site
to a different hosting provider.
How do you go about moving your entire web site and email
addresses, without losing any of your web site features,
and most importantly, your web site traffic and contact
with your customers?
Here are the steps you will need to take to make the move,
and to "keep your cool" in the process!
1. "Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark!"
The best time to plan a move is before you need to make one.
2. Choose a new web hosting provider. If you are not sure of
your needs, talk to someone who can help you sort it out.
My personal recommendation and the web hosting provider that
I use for all of my web sites can be found here:
http://www.eagleflyer.com/a/h4p.html
One of the reasons that I recommend this provider is that
you can actually move your web site and email addresses,
while maintaining your current site, and thereby reduce your
downtime.
3. Contact all of your customers and suppliers and let them
know of your intended move, an approximate date and time and
provide an alternate method of contact, such as fax or phone.
4. Make absolutely sure that you have an up to date copy of
your web site on your own hard drive. This may include some
scripts or services that operate from separate directories
on the web server, or from third-party servers on another
part of the Internet.
5. Visit your domain name "registrar" (where you registered
your domain name) and change the "DNS" (Domain Name Server)
info to match your new web site hosting provider's info.
In about 24-48 hours, your web site will be active at your
new location. You may experience some intermittent downtime
from some areas of the Internet, while your DNS records are
being updated and propagated throughout the world-wide DNS
servers.
You can check the DNS information to see when it has been
updated, by visiting http://www.whois.net or by using the
"whois" link at http://www.internic.com
6. Upload your files to your new provider's server. Check
to make sure that everything is working properly. After
you are sure that your site is up and running, you can
cancel your previous service provider account.
By planning ahead and following a step-by-step process,
you can "make your move", limit your downtime and maximize
your success.
