Stop Messenger from Running - Windows XP

Have you been getting those messages that seem to appear
from out of nowhere, while connected to the Internet?
That's Windows XP's built-in "messenger service", and
can be very distracting when you are trying to get some
work done. Here's a quick way to shut it down...

Windows Messenger 4.0 or Later on Windows XP Pro:

Click Start / Run, type gpedit.msc and press ENTER.
Double-click the following items to expand them:
Local Computer Policy

Windows Components
Windows Messenger
Double-click Do not allow Windows Messenger to run, and
then click Enabled.
Click OK, and then quit the Group Policy snap-in.

Windows Messenger 4.0 on Windows XP Home Edition:
Start Windows Messenger.
Click Options on the Tools menu.
Click the Preferences tab, click to clear the "Run this
program when Windows starts" check box.

"Order or Chaos - Which will it Be?"
By Ralph Moore (c)2003

Have you ever thought about the relationship between order
and chaos? I have! And it's interesting to note that they
are exact opposites. For example, the dictionary gives the
following definitions:

Order - "a state or condition in which everything is in
its right place and functioning properly"

Chaos - "extreme confusion or disorder"
Webster's New World Dictionary

It doesn't take much to realize that if we want things
to go smoothly in business and in life, then we want order
over chaos, every time.

Why is it then that sometimes every little thing seems to
go wrong, and we end up with "one of those days"?

Sometimes it's what I call a "convergence of anomalies".
When everyone around you is having a bad day, it makes it
that much harder for you to "have a good one".

At other times, we may actually be undermining our own
efforts by contributing to the disorder. Have you ever
used a tool and decided that you would put it away...
later, only "later" never seems to get there?

It makes it harder to find that tool the next time you need
it, doesn't it? Perhaps having a rule that says "Always
put the tool back where you got it", and following that
rule, might help to keep things in order.

What about those times when we find ourselves in a place
where all around us appears to be "out of control"?

Is there anything at all that we can do, or should we just
"throw in the towel"? In some cases, it may actually be
better to re-schedule a meeting or move to another location
in order to make some progress.

At other times, it might be better to re-assign an employee
to a different task or give her some added help. Maybe he
really does need a day off to recuperate so that he can do
his best for your business.

When was the last time that you heard someone say...
"I should have just stayed in bed today!" (Maybe you have
said that yourself, a time or two.)

It has been my experience that little work gets done when
there is no order or organization present, so the first
thing to do is to re-establish that which has been lost.

The art of progress is to preserve order amid change and
to preserve change amid order.
-- Alfred North Whitehead

Obviously, we would never choose less than the best for
our businesses or life in general.

Chaos and Order are not enemies, only opposites.
-- Richard Garriott

By recognizing the need for order and by making changes
from time to time, we can avoid chaos and get results in
every category of our lives.

Time & Chaos - Personal Organizer

[I have heard about this low-cost organizer for years and
although I have yet to find time to do a proper review, I
suggest that you take a look if you need a simple, yet very
powerful information organization system. The following is
from their web site.]

"Time and Chaos is the best contact manager software for
Windows users. It organizes your telephone book of contacts
and clients and improves your time management capabilities
with its appointment calendar and to do list tasks that
show you exactly what needs to be done today.

If you are on a network, Time & Chaos allows you to share
all of this data simultaneously with everyone in your
workgroup on your network.

(With our Web Edition you can even collaborate with people
outside your office, too!)"

7) ======= Eye of the Eagle =======
[Ideas to inspire better communication]

When Bill bought a new parrot, the salesman assured him
that it would repeat any word it heard. A week later, Bill
returned the parrot, complaining that it hadn't said one
word. If the salesman told the truth about the parrot, why
didn't it talk?

Answer to Last Issue's Puzzler...

[You are blindfolded in front of a box that contains $5, $10,
$20 and $50 dollar bills. You are allowed to take (and keep)
one bill at a time, until you have drawn out four of the same
denomination bills. What is the largest amount of money you
could keep?]

You could keep 3 - $5's, 3 - $10's, 3 - $20's, and 4 - $50's
for a total of $305.00
