1) ======= Flight Lines =======
[Observations on business and life]

It is only through labor and painful effort, by grim energy
and resolute courage, that we move on to better things.
--Theodore Roosevelt

Business is like riding a bicycle; either you keep moving
or you fall down. --Anonymous

No question about it; Movement of any kind is work, but it
is the essential part that enables you to reach your goals.
Wherever you are in your life, keep moving, stretching and
reaching and you will eventually get to your destination.

"Moving" Windows Desktop to Backup Media

Have you ever wanted to keep a "hard copy" (printed) or a
backup reminder of what your desktop looks like. I often
do this before I make a complete re-install of Windows.

It helps you remember exactly which programs were installed
and which ones you would like to not have installed in the
future.

For a quick thumb nail sketch, do this.

Press the "Print Scrn" key on the keyboard. Then, click
Start / Run and type mspaint in the "Open:" text box.
Next, click OK.

In MS Paint, click the Edit menu and select "Paste".
You should now see a image of your Desktop just as it
appeared when you hit the Print Scrn button.

If you are familiar with MS Paint, you can add text to
the image, such as today's date. Of course you can also
use any image editing program that you have. I use and
highly recommend Jasc's Paint Shop Pro.

http://www.jasc.com/

Now you can print the image and file it away or you can
copy and paste the image into a Word document or even email
it to another location as necessary.

While you are at it, be sure to click the Start / Programs
cascading menus and do the same thing with all of your
installed programs.

Be sure to copy the image to your backup floppy, cdrom or
other media for safe keeping.

"Moving On"
By Ralph Moore (c)2003

Time and tide wait for no man... --Robert Frost

Like it or not, there are times in life when we have to
make a change. And one of the biggest changes that you may
ever have to face, is that of moving your family, your home
and all of your "stuff" to a new location.

People move for a whole host of reasons. A growing family,
a different job in a new city, financial changes, changes
in health or even a death in the family are all valid
reasons for needing to move to a new location.

Some times you can't "see it coming". Often times you can.

Realizing that change is inevitable can solve half of your
problems if you are able to plan for your eventual move.

And even if circumstances prevent you from seeing your
future as clearly as if you had a "crystal ball", simply
making a few changes to the way that you do things can
reduce the overall impact of having to "move on".

After 19 years in the same house, we are currently in the
final stages of moving to a new location. It has been a
learning process to say the least.

Take it from me... Plan ahead! Remember, it wasn't raining
when Noah built the Ark.

By taking time to keep your possessions loosely organized,
you can save time and reduce the overall stress of a move,
when it's finally time to pack up and go.

For example, keeping your tools organized with "a place for
everything, and everything in it's place", will not only
make your work efforts more productive, but will insure
that your eventual move will require less preparation.

And the same goes for moving your business and all of the
equipment, records and tools that help you do whatever it
is that you do best in your business or profession.

When planning for a vacation, it's helpful to use a check-
list to make sure you're not forgetting anything. The same
goes for whenever you're making a permanent move.

And if you are moving far away, all the more need to "get
it right" the first time, since you may not be coming back.

Keep your expectations in line with reality. Realize that
wherever you are going, things are bound to be at least
a little bit different.

Since we were only moving a few miles away, much will
remain the same. But we still had to find the number for
the all-important pizza shop!

Make sure that you keep the lines of communication open.
You may need to contact friends, neighbors and businesses
at your old location while you are moving, as well as at
your destination.

Cell phones are one of the best tools available today, and
every member of your family or "team" should have one on
hand to get things done efficiently.

It helps to make a list of priorities when undertaking a
major move. Those things that seem most important at the
start of a move, may change due to the move itself.

In our case, we found that our SBC DSL service is not yet
available in our new area. Fortunately, I found what may
end up being the best replacement available today.
(See the "From the Bench" section for more information.)

Take the best... leave the rest. Sometimes, you may need
to leave things behind when you move. What better time
to discard excess "baggage" than when making a major move?

If you can't use it, sell it or donate it to charity.
(Be sure to get a receipt for tax purposes.)

Gone are the days when most of us were born, lived and
spent our final days under the same roof. While many
people spend year after year in the same place, more than
likely, a move is somewhere in your future.

By taking time to plan ahead, you will reduce the effort
required, improve your results and reach your goals when
it finally comes to "Moving On"!

Internet Service Provider That Pays You!

As a consequence of our recent move, we found out that
the SBC DSL service that we were using is not yet available
in our new location.

Fortunately, I discovered a premium ISP that not only gives
you more for your money, but a paycheck as well! It's called
"iSPViP".

If you are interested in a very nice business opportunity,
I highly recommend this one as it seems to have more than
you could ask for, including real 24/7/365 tech support and
service that has been flawless to boot.

In fact, I kind of feel like I have found a hidden gem in
iSPViP. The real strange thing is that even though I had
never heard of them, they have over 93 MILLION business
and end-user customers already.

There are two web sites for this company. One for those
who are interested in the additional business opportunity,
and one for people who only want the Internet service.

Here is a list of the features:

International Business Opportunity & Partnership,

HighSPEED Internet Access at no extra charge - V.92/56k GoFast
technology speeds surfing up to 5 times that of other ISP´s,
Over 5000 dial up locations in U.S,, Canada, Puerto Rico and
the U.S. Virgin Isles.

(I really can't tell much difference from DSL)

24/7/365 expert telephone tech support at no charge, (even
the call is toll-free)

I checked this out. They really do answer the phone, and
they really DO know what they are doing.)

10 email addresses with unlimited space, and Web and POP
access with Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape or a number
of email clients.

Webmail - a no-charge part of a subsidiary business:
TheEmailBox.com®.

spam blocking / filtering system that can be trained by you
to understand what you consider spam and junk mail, and what
you don´t.

7) ======= Eye of the Eagle =======
[Ideas to inspire better communication]

You are blindfolded in front of a box that contains $5, $10,
$20 and $50 dollar bills. You are allowed to take (and keep)
one bill at a time, until you have drawn out four of the same
denomination bills. What is the largest amount of money you
could keep?

(Answer(s) in the next issue of the Flyer)

Answer to Last Issue's Puzzler...

[Jim stared through the filthy window of the 16th floor of
the building. Depressed, he opened the window and jumped
through. Believe it or not, he was unhurt, even though it
was a sheer drop from the building to the ground. How did
he survive the fall?]

Jim was so tired of washing windows, that he opened the
window and jumped inside.
