[Observations on business and life]

The "Hope of Christ's Return"

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Can We Make Sense Of The Senseless?
by John Colanzi

I've been trying to make sense of what would appear to be a senseless attack on America by crazed, religious zealots.

After the initial numbness wore off and after spending many sleepless nights trying to find a rhyme or reason for what happened, I've come to some disturbing conclusions.

They are not crazy.

It's far too easy to dismiss these terrorists as crazy. They aren't crazy. They are cold, calculating and they know what they are doing and why.

Their goal is not just to eliminate and desimate America, they are sending a message to the world on their hate for:

<> Democracy

<> Individualism

<> Freedom Of Religion

<> Freedom Of Speech and Thought

<> Capitalism

We were the "Great Experiment" that started as nothing more than thoughts in the minds of a handful of rugged individualists.

We removed the barriers of the class system. We eliminated the concept of the individual as a servant to the state.

I can sit and write this without fear of having my door kicked in. I don't worry that troops will drag me out of my house for exercising free speech.

I have the freedom to practice any religion or no religion. The choice is mine, not the states.

My grandfather ran away from home at 16 years old and was able to come to this country alone and without even the ability to speak our language.

He was given the freedom in our Capitalist society to start a business, which still stands today and is run by my father.

These are the principles Bin Laden and the terrorists were attacking. Not just the people and property of America. They coldly and calculatedly were attacking the hopes and dreams we stand for.

They are not crazy. They are not religious. No true Muslim, believes in the killing of the innocent.

They are not just anti-American, they are anti everything America stands for. We were the last bastion of tranquility in the world.

We were the last place on Earth considered safe by every free thinking human on Earth.

That's why they sang God Bless America across the globe yesterday. That's why a woman in France said everyone is an American today.

America is not just it's physical boundaries. It's not just it's people. It's a mind set. It's the hopes and dreams of so many who've never even set foot on our shores.

With all our blessing comes the responsibility to go forward and to keep the "Great Experiment" alive.

We are here to stay and all we ask is "Don't Tread On Me."

God Bless America and God Bless everyone around the globe who were Americans yesterday.

God Bless,
John

Commentary

"I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant and have
instilled in him a terrible resolve".
Imperial Admiral Yamamoto December 1941 following the
attack on Pearl Harbor.

This week it seems that much of the world has spent a great deal of time in front of their television sets watching the horrific aftermath of the terrorist attack that was designed to demoralize and frighten the American people. It is obvious that the madmen who perpetrated these acts have spent a great deal of time in planning and training for their act of cowardice. It is equally obvious that they spent little time in the study of the history of the United States of America. If they had, they would have known that their act would have quite the opposite effect from from what they intended.

In fact, you might say that we owe the madmen of the world, such as Osama bin Laden, a measure of thanks. Prior to these intolerable acts, America was indeed "The Great Melting Pot". We were a country comprised of Blacks, Whites, Asians, Hispanics and my own people, the American Indian. America was peopled with Catholics, Protestants, Mormon, Jews, Moslems, Buddhists and any other religious designation you can bring to mind. We were a potpourri of nationalities, cultures and customs. Most of us, after all, came from someplace else originally, and some of us still bear the stamp of our origin in our speech or our mode of dress. In any major city you are likely to find many of us banded together in our own little communities where we can be with others who share our values, customs and viewpoint on life. That all changed this week.

Today, the United States is comprised of Americans. And each of those Americans is a warrior with a terrible determination too bring to justice those who will not or cannot learn to live in a civilized society. To do that we may have to walk a path we prayed never to walk again, the path to war. We hope our journey along this path is a short one. We hope the extermination of these vermin infesting our global community is swift and decisive. We long for the day when we can put down our war lance and return to our peaceful lives in beauty and harmony. It is so.

EAGLE FACTS:

Bald Eagles are not really bald. Their head is actually covered with white feathers. The white feathers on their head appear when they are about 5 or 6 years old. Baby eagles are partially covered with down, but when they leave the nest, they have dark feathers covering their entire bodies.

The female can be up to one third larger than the male.

They have wide wings that help them stay in the air.

The wing span of a bald eagles is normally about 8 feet in length.

Bald Eagles will only be found living in trees that are 75 feet high, or higher.

Bald Eagles add to their nest over and over. They mate for life.

It can take a pair of eagles up to six weeks to build their nest for the first time. The eyrie is the large nest made of sticks and lined with twigs and green grass. The heaviest nest ever found is 1 ton.

The female may lay from one to three eggs and raises one brood (group) per year. If these eggs are destroyed the female may lay more eggs. It takes four weeks for an eagle egg to hatch. Baby eagles (or Eaglets) grow slowly and require large amounts of food.

Bald Eagles normally eat fish. Sometimes they will eat snakes and smaller birds. They have long sharp beaks and curved talons to help hold prey. They can fly with 8 pounds of food in their beaks.

Eagles have excellent eyesight that helps them see for one to one and a half MILES away...thus the term "eagles eye".

Eagles can dive at 100 miles per hour. Their eyesight and diving ability help them catch food.

At one of the first battles of the Revolution, early in the morning, the noise of the battle awoke the eagles. The eagles flew from their nests and circling and crying out over the heads of the men that were fighting. "They are shrieking for Freedom," said the patriots.

The bald eagle is a symbol of freedom. In 1782 it was chosen as the American National Bird. Also in 1782 the eagle became the central figure in the official national seal. The designer originally drew in the golden eagle, but since the golden eagle lives in both Europe and America the American bald eagle was used instead.

The Great Seal shows a wide-spread eagle, faced front, having on his breast a shield with thirteen perpendicular red and white stripes, surmounted by a blue field with the same number of stars.

The bald eagle is the emblem of twelve states and is the symbol of many companies and organizations across the country. On the backs of our gold coins, the silver dollar, the half dollar and the quarter, we see an eagle with it's wings spread out.

It has been said that the bald eagle was selected as the nation's symbol because it's the only bird that is not afraid of the storm!
