"Helping Your Business Fly"
Issue 1

=======***=======
Eagle Flyer was designed for our consulting clients and online
customers. Our goal for this newsletter is to keep you up to date on
our services and products, while providing helps and tips relating to computer hardware, software, networks and the online world.

======= Flight Lines =======
Victory and defeat are each of the same price. -- Thomas Jefferson
There is a great difference between knowing and understanding: you can
know a lot about something and not really understand it. -- Charles F. Kettering

======= Wing Tips =======
*** Data
Remember, if you value your data, and by data we mean documents, image
files, customer information, anything of value to you and your business...
Back It Up! There is nothing worse than losing important information and
not being able to recover because someone forgot to make that all-important
backup.

*** General
Reduce your printing costs:
Over the long run, ink cartridges will cost your business more than
some printers. Cut your costs by purchasing printers that use the same
type of cartridges, and buy them in quantity for additional savings.
Many of the Hewlett Packard line use the same ink cartridges for several
models.

Be sure to purchase color printers which have two cartridges: one for
colors, and another black-only ink cartridge, for non-color printing.
Remember to use lower-quality print modes for drafts, and non-color mode
for text documents.

*** Linux
If you are new to Linux, as so many folks are, you may be wondering
how to get help on the various commands within the operating system.
Virtually every "distribution" of Linux offers a multitude of help
files which are accessed by invoking the "man" command.
For example, for help on the "bash" (Bourne again shell) command, type
"man bash" (without the quotation marks), from a command prompt. You
will be shown a text file with a tremendous amount of information
regarding this most common shell interface.

*** Windows 95
Get rid of the Windows 95 logo at start-up: Press the ESCape key, for
a quick glimpse at the behind-the-scenes boot-up action. To permanently
remove the Windows logo, do the following: Make a backup copy of the
msdos.sys file, and then edit the file, using a text editor, (such as
notepad) and under the [Options] section, add LOGO=0 in a separate line.

*** Windows 98
To control the programs that load at startup, go to Start/Programs/
Accessories/System Tools/System Information. Select System Configuration
Utility from the Tools menu. Now you can control those programs that
load at startup. You will, of course, have to reboot in order for any
changes to take effect.

*** Windows NT
One of the first things that you should do, and which many people
verlook under any operating system, is to create an emergency boot disk.
To begin the process, simply go to the Start/Run command and type rdisk
and follow the prompts. Be sure to store this disk in a safe place.
