[Observations on business and life]
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in
till afterwards. Proverbs 29:11 - Bible KJV
If you don't say anything, you won't be called on to
repeat it. --Calvin Coolidge
In business it is wise to think before you act, but it is
wiser still to refrain from thinking out loud. Many an
advantage has been lost due to a "loose tongue".

"Windows SBS 2003 - Who Needs It Anyway?"
By Ralph Moore (c)2005
If you've been thinking about getting away from your old
"peer-to-peer" network and moving to something a lot more
powerful, consider Microsoft's all-in-one solution for
small business... Windows Small Business Server 2003.
In either the standard or premium edition, SBS 2003 packs
a powerful punch. It enables small businesses to make use
of many of the same powerful features of it's older brother
Server 2003, at a reduced cost in terms of hardware and
administration.
SBS 2003 is designed to work with anywhere from 1 to 75
workstations and includes its own domain controller, file
and print server, shared fax services and enhanced email
capability, which couples MS Exchange with Outlook 2003.
With its Remote Routing and Access Service (RRAS) and
Windows SharePoint Services, SBS 2003 standard provides
powerful messaging and document sharing and collaberation
anywhere and can be accessed through a virtual private
network (VPN).
For a few dollars more, the Premium Edition also includes
Microsoft's Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server
2000, SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003
for building your own web site(s).
If you have been using a peer-to-peer network, you are all
too familiar with the limitations and problems that are
inherent in that system.
If someone turns off his computer or reboots it, any network
resources such as a printer or shared files are unavailable
until the computer is turned on once again.
And since files are often distributed across multiple pc's,
performing a backup is difficult at best and management and
recovery of shared files has a higher likelihood of failure.
With a server solution like SBS 2003, everything is in one
place, backups occur when they are scheduled to and files
are kept up to date on the server, eliminating duplication
and error.
With all of its functionality in one server, SBS 2003 is a
much easier solution to manage as all of the necessary tools
are on the same machine, instead of spread out all over the
network.
Everything can be managed from one management console on the
SBS server. With remote access, the server can be accessed
and managed from any web browser in the world.
One thing that should be noted however, is that SBS 2003 is
not intended for administration by a network novice. The
suite of included applications, such as Exchange Server is
the full product, not some stripped down lesser version.
Anyone considering moving to SBS 2003 (Standard or Premium)
would be advised to budget for administration by a seasoned
network professional with experience in Windows NT, 2000,
2003 or SBS server experience.
With their improved focus on security, Microsoft has set the
default installation of SBS 2003 to "block everything" and
turn on the firewall for a more secure "out of the box"
experience.
When you decide to connect to the Internet, you will want to
add a hardware firewall for increased security, especially
if you are connected by way of a high-speed DSL or cable
connection.
And a premium virus protection product such as Trend Micro's
Client / Server Messaging Suite for SMB will be needed to
maintain a secure work environment.
The overall cost of SBS 2003 and its required hardware is
substantially less than a Server 2003 distributed network.
By planning ahead, any small business that is outgrowing its
peer-to-peer network can and should consider this new and
powerful all-in-one solution from Microsoft.

[The Lighter Side Of Life - Jokes & Humor]
Boris and Ivan, two Russian-born immigrants, were once again
discussing politics.
While Boris had become a devoted Republican, Ivan maintained
the socialist roots of his "motherland".
"Now, let me get this straight Ivan, under socialism, if
you had two farms, and I had none, you would give me one of
them?"
"Thats right, Boris!" replied his friend.
"And under socialism, if you had two tractors and I had none,
you would give one of them to me?", asked Boris.
"Why... you know I would, my friend" said Ivan.
"And if you had two cows, Ivan?"
"Blast you Boris! You KNOW I have two cows..."
