"Pay Per Click for Small Business - Part 1"

What is Pay Per Click Advertising?
"Pay Per Click Advertising" is a process that allows you
to quickly place your web page where it will be sure to
be seen, by people who are searching for whatever you are
offering.
This process is often referred to as "targeted" advertising
since it points people in the direction that you want them
to go, much like aiming at a target.
How does it work?
Pay per click advertising works through a "bidding" process.
Each advertiser bids a certain amount of money, sometimes
as little as $.01 or as much as several dollars, for a
"keyword" or "key phrase".
The ad with the highest bid is placed in the top position
on the search engines "results page", whenever a visitor
searches for that keyword or phrase.
The person with the next highest bid has their ad placed
in the second position, and so forth.
Whenever someone sees your ad and "clicks through", an
amount of money equal to your bid is deducted from your
account with the search engine company.
By bidding for a higher position in the results page, it
is likely that your ad will be seen and opened more often
than ads that appear farther down in the listings.
Why is pay per click advertising important?
Pay per click advertising can bring "targeted" traffic to
your web site at a very low "cost to visitor" ratio.
It has been reported that pay per click ads will increase
from over $1.2 Billion in 2002 to $7 or $8 Billion by 2008.
Why would I want to use it for my business?
Unlike normal search engines, pay per click advertising
allows you to instantly reach a top listing for any key
word or phrase you select.
By using pay per click advertising on the Internet, your
business can find the visitors who are searching for the
very products and services that you offer, reduce your
overall advertising costs, increase your "brand awareness"
and multiply your business.
Where do I go to learn more?
Start by visiting some of the following pay per click search
engines and read and compare their rules and requirements
for getting started.
Look for free tools and online help, cost to get started
and the degree of control you will have over your funds
and your advertising options.
At this time, Overture and Google are generally considered
to be some of the best pay per click advertising services
available on the Internet.

Summary:
To be successful with pay per click advertising, you must
frequently test your ads, analyze your results, and "fine
tune" your overall advertising process.
After you learn the "basics", pay per click advertising can
quickly become the least expensive and the most effective
advertising method of all.
